Soumaya is currently pursuing a masters degree in Migration Studies at the Université of Lille in France. Before she returned to her studies, she worked as a a communication officer for several non governmental organizations in Senegal and Guinea. She also took part in supporting local environment and health initiatives in Conakry (Guinea). In Lille she provides administrative support for refugees and asylum seekers. Her topic of research regards the bottom-up perspective of how environmental migrants relocated in the Karail slum perceive environmental/climate justice. She has strong interests in advocacy and the construction of social movements related to environmental justice through awareness raising.
