Daniel Smith

Daniel Smith is a visiting researcher at ICCCAD, who is currently undertaking his master’s degree at Gothenburg University, Sweden in economics. He currently holds a bachelor’s in economics from Karlstad University, Sweden. The thesis is written together with fellow visiting researcher Dariush Shafiee and in cooperation with the International Cooperation Office at Statistics Sweden. Daniel was granted a scholarship enabling the research in Bangladesh, a scholarship which covers travel and accommodation expenditures from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).

The purpose of the thesis is to examine and highlight what affect climate change has on poverty and inequalities, in Bangladesh. This will be conducted by analysing to what extent weather and climatic events, such as floods and droughts affect households. Further, the thesis is aimed to explore possible policy implementations regarding poverty prevention in Bangladesh.
